Food & Drink

With a wide range of options for lunch, brunch and dinner, there's something for everyone in San Diego. The best restaurants offer locally sourced ingredients, beautiful views and luxurious settings. Some are rustic American and others boast Asian inspired cuisine. Some are plant-based or have vegan options.

Seafood

San Diego is famous for its seafood, which can be enjoyed in the city's numerous dining establishments and on the beach. Some of the best restaurants serve fresh fish from the ocean or from local farms.

There are also several great spots to eat fresh sushi in San Diego. The sashimi is especially delicious, but you'll want to save room for the sushi rolls as well.

You'll also find lots of excellent Mexican restaurants in San Diego, too. In addition to the traditional offerings, there are several Mexican restaurants that focus on fusion cuisine.

Art & Culture

The art scene in San Diego is one of the most diverse and vibrant in the country. The city has over 15 museums and a host of galleries and cultural venues. Some of these are free to enter, while others require a small fee.

A few of the most prominent are the Museum of Contemporary Art, The San Diego Museum of Art, The Natural History Museum and The Fleet Science Center. Other museums include The Museum of Photographic Arts and The San Diego Air & Space Museum.

Besides museums, the largest urban park in the United States is located in San Diego. Balboa Park stretches over 1,200 acres and is home to 17 museums, the world's most populous koala colony and a giant outdoor pipe organ.

It's the perfect place to explore and enjoy a day outdoors, with plenty of parks, gardens, walking paths and open areas to relax in. Pop into the free Botanical Garden Building for a glimpse at tropical plants and orchids or check out the Japanese Friendship Garden for some peaceful lunchtime sushi.

The park is a hub of entertainment as well, with the San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld San Diego. The zoo has rides that cater to toddlers as well as teens, while SeaWorld San Diego has more than a few thrills for the entire family.

Whale Watching

With grey and blue whales swimming in the waters off of San Diego, whale watching is a must for the whole family. The whales migrate between Winter and Spring, with a good chance of seeing the majestic mammals in San Diego during that time of year.

Other great whale watching spots in the area include Catalina Island, which is about a three-hour drive from the city. The San Diego Zoo is a great option for seeing whales in the wild, while Harbor Island and Coronado are other popular spots to spot humpbacks.
